Although I work as a psychotherapist in another sphere of my life, in this space what I offer is coaching.
What’s the difference?
Psychotherapists are licensed professionals trained to treat mental health disorders through talk therapy, often exploring emotional and cognitive patterns rooted in past experiences. Their work is typically clinical, focusing on healing psychological wounds and managing mental health symptoms.
In contrast, somatic healing practitioners and healing journey-focused coaches emphasize the connection between the body and mind. Somatic healing involves using body-based techniques to release trauma and restore physical and emotional balance. Healing journey coaches guide individuals through personal growth and self-discovery, often integrating mindfulness, movement, and holistic practices to support overall well-being.
Unlike psychotherapy, these approaches may not require formal diagnosis or clinical treatment but instead foster empowerment and self-awareness through embodied experience.

CORE CONCEPTSWe will be working using constructs such as:
Desires
Identifying and working with the desire system in psychosomatic and spiritual work is about bringing conscious awareness to both surface-level and deeper drives. It involves integrating desires within the body and mind while also working to transform and channel them toward higher awareness, healing, and spiritual fulfillment.
Identifying and working with desires in this context involves understanding their origins, how they influence the body-mind system, and how they can either contribute to suffering or serve as pathways to greater self-awareness, healing, and spiritual growth.

In psychosomatic and spiritual work, the desire system plays a crucial role, as it encompasses the drives, cravings, and longings that shape human behavior, emotions, and bodily experiences. Identifying and working with desires in this context involves understanding their origins, how they influence the body-mind system, and how they can either contribute to suffering or serve as pathways to greater self-awareness, healing, and spiritual growth.
Key Roles of Identifying and Working with the Desire System:
1. Desire as a Source of Vitality and Energy
Desire represents a fundamental life force, the driving energy that motivates action, creativity, connection, and purpose. In psychosomatic practice, desires are often experienced and expressed through the body, manifesting as urges, physical sensations, or emotional needs.
Recognizing these desires is the first step toward integrating them, rather than repressing or disowning them. When ignored or suppressed, unfulfilled desires can manifest as physical tension, stress, or illness in the body.
In spiritual work, desires are sometimes seen as raw forms of energy that, when acknowledged and transformed, can lead to higher states of consciousness and deeper understanding of the self.
2. Desire and Unconscious Drives
Desires are often tied to unconscious processes, including unmet needs from childhood, unresolved traumas, or unexpressed emotions. These unconscious desires can drive behaviors and emotional reactions, often resulting in patterns of suffering or conflict within oneself.
Psychosomatic approaches help individuals become aware of these unconscious desires by tuning into the body’s signals. For example, somatic symptoms (like chronic pain, tension, or fatigue) might be linked to unmet emotional needs or unrecognized desires for connection, safety, or validation.
In spiritual practice, becoming conscious of hidden desires can reveal attachments, compulsions, or patterns that block spiritual progress. Desire is often examined in light of egoic attachments, and spiritual work aims to bring these desires into awareness to dissolve suffering caused by attachment.
3. Desire, Attachment, and Suffering
In many spiritual traditions (like Buddhism), unchecked desire and attachment are seen as central causes of suffering. The craving for external validation, material wealth, or status often leads to dissatisfaction, anxiety, and an ongoing cycle of seeking fulfillment outside oneself.
Identifying desires allows for the recognition of attachments and the understanding that external fulfillment does not provide lasting happiness. Psychosomatic work assists by helping individuals experience how attachment-based desires are stored or expressed in the body, enabling a more embodied process of release.
Both psychosomatic and spiritual practices teach that desires themselves are not inherently problematic, but attachment to them is. The goal is to develop a healthy relationship with desire—acknowledging it without being enslaved by it.
4. Transmutation of Desire into Higher States of Consciousness
In spiritual frameworks, desires can be seen as raw material for transformation. Rather than rejecting or suppressing desires, spiritual practices often seek to transmute them into higher forms of energy, such as turning sensual or material desires into devotion, love, or creative expression.
For example, in tantric traditions, rather than rejecting desires as distractions, the energy of desire is cultivated and channeled into spiritual awakening and self-realization.
Psychosomatic practices work similarly by helping individuals embody and process desires in a way that brings deeper emotional integration and release. When worked with consciously, the energy of desire can fuel personal growth, transformation, and connection with the deeper self.
5. Integration of Desire in the Body-Mind-Spirit System
Psychosomatic and spiritual work both emphasize the importance of integrating desires into the whole being. Desires that are ignored, repressed, or disowned can create fragmentation—whether that manifests as physical symptoms, emotional blocks, or spiritual confusion.
Working with desires involves allowing the body to express its needs and longings through somatic practices like breathwork, movement, and awareness-based techniques. This often involves releasing tension and stored emotions linked to unfulfilled or repressed desires.
On the spiritual level, integration involves recognizing desire as part of the human condition and learning to hold it in a balanced way, neither over-identifying with it nor denying its existence.
6. Embodied Desires and the Path of Fulfillment
Ultimately, working with desire in psychosomatic and spiritual frameworks is about learning to relate to desire from a place of awareness and embodiment. It’s about moving beyond mindless craving and toward conscious fulfillment.
When desires are embodied—meaning fully experienced through the mind, body, and emotions—they lose their power to control. The individual becomes more present and aware, able to discern which desires are aligned with their true self or deeper purpose.
In spiritual work, this can lead to a sense of inner peace, contentment, and liberation from the endless cycle of craving and aversion.
Practices for Working with the Desire System:
Mindfulness and Somatic Awareness: Cultivating awareness of how desires show up in the body (e.g., tension, cravings) helps integrate unconscious drives.
Breathwork and Movement: These practices facilitate the release of blocked energy or desires that have been held in the body.
Emotional Processing: Psychotherapeutic techniques can help process unmet needs or emotional blocks related to desire.
Spiritual Discernment: Practices like meditation, contemplation, and inquiry allow individuals to examine desires and discern whether they stem from egoic attachments or deeper, more authentic needs.
IntegrationTaking the time to learn to feel safe in allowing what feels alive. Integration invites the harmonious connection and unification of the mind, body, emotions, and spirit. This framework views humans as holistic, with no separation between the physical and mental realms. Integration emphasizes achieving balance and coherence between different dimensions of experience, recognizing that mental states affect the body and vice versa.
safety.
Cultivating safety in our lived experience begins with the inner work of setting boundaries, honoring our intuition, and prioritizing our well-being. It involves creating a nurturing environment that supports our mental, emotional, and physical health, and surrounding ourselves with people who respect and uplift us. Cultivating safety also means acknowledging and processing past traumas, seeking support when needed, and being gentle with ourselves as we heal. It's an ongoing practice of self-care, self-compassion, and self-advocacy that allows us to navigate the world from a place of grounded strength and resilience. As we consciously cultivate safety in our lives, we empower ourselves to embrace vulnerability, pursue our dreams, and live authentically and unapologetically.
Physical, emotional, and mental safety and freedom lead to wellness.
